6 Best Food Trucks and Food Joints on Maui
Best Food Trucks and Food Joints on Maui – where to eat on Maui
Maui – what an awesome place to go on a vacation. This place is like paradise come true and we enjoyed every minute of it.
Actually we spent our vacation a little different than usual on Maui. Everybody else books a Hotel or a Condo, rents a convertible or a Jeep and then drives all over the island, stressed out not to miss a waterfall.
No, we decided we would rent a Camper Van and enjoy 3 days of relaxed driving and easy going to see whatever we wanted to see and do on this incredible island. You can read all about our trip here Maui – 3 awesome days in a Camper Van
We stopped at the most amazing places and didn’t had to rush back to the hotel in the evening, we just drove to the next campground and enjoyed sleeping with a view.
And on our way all over Maui, we discovered the most amazing Food Trucks and Food Joints.
We ate the best food and spent little money, compared to eating in expensive restaurants.
Here is the list of the best Food Trucks and Food Joints on Maui:
Hana – Ae’s Thai Kitchen
Authentic Thai food with amazing flavor. You can pick from about 7 different dishes, everything completely fresh. Coconut Crusted Mahi with Rice, Green Papaya Slaw, Vegan Drunken Noodles, Pad Thai with Chicken or Shrimps – everything very delicious.
The Surfing Burro
Mexican at its best. Just the smell when you walk by the Truck gets you really hungry. And here you get one of the best Mexican Tacos on the Island. Go for lunch and you have a choice of everything, if you come late they might be out of food, because they make everything fresh.
And Coconut Glen’s Ice Cream Truck is right next to the Thai Kitchen.
Wailuku Airport – Thai Mee Up
Right next to the Airport, behind Costco, is a little gathering of Food Trucks and we have tried them all:
Thai Mee Up cooks fresh, hearty and a little funky. From Pork Ribs and Curry to Pad Thai and Rice dishes, whatever you feel like, it tastes great.
Kahului Airport – Dinos Gourmet Food Truck
Dino is of Greek origin and cooks very authentic. He bakes his own buns, he grows his own herbs and vegetables, just to be sure everything is organic and of best quality. Of course the meat is from Maui genuine beef.
Dino used to be a seal and retired on Maui, best place to retire for sure. He loves cooking and this is what he is doing now. Whenever he feels like it he opens up his Food Truck – and wow – he grills the best Burgers ever. He makes his own blue cheese sauce and although I don’t really like blue cheese, I love this sauce. You have to try it to understand what I am saying. And he is such a nice guy.
Food Joint in Paia – Paia Fish Market
There are actually a couple of Fish Markets on Maui, but the one in Paia is the first one to open up on Maui and the best one – what we have heard. We accidentally found this one – because we were so hungry and it smelled so good walking by. And we were so lucky, because this place gets packed. We just made it before the lunch crowd arrived and you have to stand in line.
And the food is just great. Very casual self-service little restaurant, but the quality of the food you are getting here is amazing. Mainly fish oriented of course, but you can also get Pasta and Burgers if you feel like it. But you definitly should go for fish.
Ka’anapali Whalers Village – Monkeypod Kitchen
Now I have to talk about Monkeypod Kitchen. Our absolute favorite Diner and so convenient right next to our Hotel we booked after we were done with cruising around in the Camper Van. We ate there a couple of times because the food was so delicious.
Now, we love to sit at the bar and eat Appetizers and try different kinds of food, and this is what we did at Monkeypod Kitchen.
First I had the best Mai-tai at Monkey Pod, as you can see they make their own cream with cinnamon and a secret ingredient. Very cool. You can have three, but then you should settle for water.
We had Pizza there, yes Pizza, doesn’t really sound like something amazing but it was. Fresh mushrooms, and truffle and Parmesan Cheese. Ahmmmm, I still taste the truffles in my mouth. Sooo good.
We also tried Raviolis and were too full to try the Lobster Eggs. We should have done it anyhow, they looked great.
Lahaina – Down the hatch
This Food Joint was featured in Diners, Drive In’s and Dives and we were a little skeptical first, but yes, amazing.
Also a self service restaurant and everything we ate was delicious.
We started with Hula Hula Shrimps and Chicken Taco and the next day with Coconut Shrimps and Fish Tacos. My favorite definily are the Hula Hula Shrimps, the sauce is so delicious you can’t stop eating.
If you go to Maui you should definitly try one of these Diners or Food Trucks. You can’t go wrong here. And the best thing is, because Maui is not a cheap place, you can eat very good and pay a normal mount of money for the food at these places.
And as I said, we rather sit at the bar, talk to people and eat all kinds of Appetizers. My only regret is that we didn’t try more food, but we will definitley come back.
