How to add a white DIY Wood Frame to a Mirror easy
This tutorial will show you how to update a frameless bathroom mirror with a pretty white wood frame. We tackled this DIY Wood Frame Project on a Saturday afternoon and are so happy we did. Follow these easy steps:
Updating a frameless mirror with a wood frame makes sense
I am constantly finding new projects around my house. This one was a very easy DIY to update my bathroom mirror with a white wood frame under 20 Dollars. So here we go.
As I have already mentioned in my basement bathroom remodel, I don’t want to spend a lot of money on updates. This is why I am trying to find easy ways to make my builder standard house into a stunning looking home with cute and simple updates.
This is what you need to get started:
Material List:
- Wood boards 1″ x 4″ or we used white crown molding
- Miter Saw Box and Hand Saw or Miter Saw
- LocTite PL 530 Mirror, Marble & Granite Glue
- Level, Measure, Painters Tape

Measure and cut the boards
Measure the length and width of the mirror.
Have you decided what kind of wood you want to get? We bought baseboard moldings in white because they have a rim on the backside which makes everything so much easier if you have mirror clips (which you probably have). That means you don’t need to cut or sand holes for the clips into the wood frame.
Measure your mirror. Length and width then subtract 1 inch from the lengths and widths of your crown molding, and cut the inside corner of your molding to that length.
Use your miter saw or your miter box.
Because you are cutting a diagonal, the outside corner of the crown molding will be longer.
We then used our miter box to saw 45 degree cuts at each of those measured marks. That way the boards form a 90 degree angle at each of the corners when put together.

Of course it is faster and easier if you have a miter saw. We don’t, so we used our hand saw to make these 4 cuts. It worked well.

Test first and stick the boards onto the mirror
Take all of your 4 pieces and check if the edges fit perfectly together. Use painters tape to tape them on the wall and mirror to see how it looks.
Cover your vanity in case you drip some glue.
Now glue the boards onto the mirror
Take one board off and apply mirror glue in waves into the rim of the molding. Don’t use too much but also don’t use too little. There should be an even amount of glue. If you use too much the glue oozes out onto the mirror, which won’t look good.
Then press the board on the mirror for about 30 seconds. Tape the board with painters tape on the mirror and wall to secure the frame.

Do this exact step with all of the remaining boards.
Be sure the corners fit together well. Also use your level to make sure the frame sits straight.

Leave the painters tape on for another 48 hours until it is completely dry.

We added a lot of tape at the corners, to keep them in the right spot to create a perfect fit.

Remove the painters tape and you are done. Well, clean the mirror, because finger prints are all over the mirror.

Summary of How to add a DIY white wood frame to a mirror easy
Because we bought white crown moldings we did not had to stain or paint the wood. This is why we were able to finish this project in a couple of hours. If you have the right tools it is easy to do. Just be sure you measure the boards right and cut them in a perfect 45 degree angle.
By using the miter box or a miter saw nothing really can go wrong.
The glue was 8 $ and worked well. So all together we spent about 20 $ for the wood and the glue. It took us probably 2 hours to add this white wood frame to our bathroom mirror. It looks so much better.
