Beautiful entryways
How to create beautiful entryways
The first impression you get when stepping into a house is the entry or the foyer.
Therefore it is the perfect opportunity to surprise your guests with an organized and functional entrance to make a killer impression.
Unfortunately many homes do not have a dedicated mudroom, clutter tends to build up by the front door, especially if you have children.
I try to keep this area pretty and tidy, because I know this is the first impression of my house and I am very particular about this.
Well, I am not always successful (because I am not the only one living here), but we are getting better every day. Shoes are still an issue.
Do you like this bench? I just love it! I made it within an hour and spent under 50 $. If you don’t have a huge budget, but want to add a little extra to your entry, check the tutorial out. How to build a bench easy
How to keep a beautiful entry tidy
You open the door to friends, family, neighbors and you want them to be greeted by a friendly and pretty looking first glance of your home.
Therefore the first and most important factor is to have your entry tidy.
To achieve this, you need to have storage possibilities available. Depending on how big your entry is, have a
- storage bench,
- baskets,
- boxes,
- shelves or
- drawers available.
Take a good look at your entry and decide if you need to make some kind of an update.
Check how much space you have available to add a storage item or some pretty looking baskets.
No shoes, jackets, book bags and other stuff should have their place on the floor.
Always have storage possibilities close by to keep all these items in a dedicated spot.
Make it easy for them
This picture shows a bookshelf I have bought at Ikea a couple of years ago.
The unit is perfect and simple to store shoes, book bags, shopping bags and other things at the entrance.
Make it easy for your family to put stuff away, there is no need to even open up a closet door.
If you don’t want to look at shoes in the entrance, use the containers which are available for this unit.
Decorate the top of this shelf unit pretty with your favorite decor.
Make it pretty
Putting a
- mirror,
- a happy picture or
- a welcome sign
on top of the drawer or shelf, draws the eyes away from other not so decorative things.
Mirrors create more space
If you don’t need a lot of storage at your entry, search for a nice looking piece of furniture to make a glamorous entry. A mirror creates more space, especially if your entry is very small.
A bench is always a welcome place to sit down and put the shoes on.
Organize the entry
Create a dedicated place for
- keys,
- phones,
- change,
little stuff which has no real spot in your house right now.
Keep a box or a basket at your entrance, where you store bags, shoes or various other stuff you need to keep close to the entrance.
If your entrance is tiny, look for light bright furniture.
Is your entrance rather large, use furniture with pretty details, drawers, doors to keep your things organized.

Here are some examples of rather large entryways.
Good to have: closed storage units
Installing a barn door is the perfect way to hide the not so pretty stuff in closets. Also a barn door doesn’t use a lot of space.
So try to incorporate closed units/closets for jackets, hats, gloves, umbrellas, boots and so much more stuff without a dedicated area.
If you are wondering how to make a simple barn door cheap, here is my post ‘how to’:

Final words on Beautiful Entryways
Doesn’t matter how small an entrance is, there is a place for a basket or a little shelf to drop off keys and change.
Or even if you only have the space for some wall hooks to make the organization easier, hang it on the wall.
A tidy and well organized entrance makes such a difference.
Talk to you next week,
Conny
