Best RV Campground at the Beach in SC
The best things often just happen by accident. And this is what happened to us last month, when we decided to escape the November rain and to head down to the beach. We found the best RV Campground directly at the beach in SC.
Best RV Campground at the beach in SC
Actually we had booked a different campground about 1/2 mile away from the beach, but while walking to the beach we found the perfect campground directly at the beach.
The first two days we stayed at Live Oak campground with walking distance to the beach. Live Oak Campground at Edisto Beach has perfect sites, clean bathrooms, great trails for little hikes within the State Park.
But if you want to be directly on the beach you have to book Edisto Beach State Park. This is by far the best RV Campground at the beach in SC. What a great location directly on the beach with access to nearby shops and restaurants.
We were lucky to get RV site 13, one of the best locations on the Campground. We had such a great time and in November there is almost nobody at the beach. The weather was pretty good, we had cloudy days, rain and sunshine. But no matter what weather, it is great to enjoy peaceful walks and some treasure hunting on the beach.

What can you expect from this campground?
To be called the best RV Campground in SC it needs to have good features like
- big sites,
- clean bathrooms,
- friendly rangers,
- a snack bar/gift shop,
- a bar/restaurant at the beach.
This is all you need. Of course there are more Restaurants in walking distance which serve a lot of seafood. Across from the Park is a gas station and a grocery shop.
You can rent bikes, kayaks and golf carts, there is a surf shop and of course some gift shops.
What to do at Edisto Beach?
And there is so much to do while you are here, it doesn’t get boring:
- Go for long walks on the beach (bring the dog)
- Collect shells and shark teeth
- Make cool beach art with beach finds
- Have a drink at the pier restaurant
- Play Volleyball on the beach
- Bring a comfy chair and read
- Watch the pelicans go hunting
- Rent a bike and drive down the beach
- Go surfing or fishing
- Eat seafood
- Meditate, do yoga on the beach
- Breath the fresh ocean air
- Watch the sunrise and the sunset
Always when you go for a walk on the beach, bring a bucket or a bag with you. I just can’t stop collecting shells when I walk the beach and normally end up with overloading my pockets with finds.
And while you are collecting shells on the beach, please also pick up plastic trash, like bottles or lids or whatever trash you find to keep the beach clean.

What you need to pack when you camp on the beach:
What you definitely need to bring when you come here in fall or winter is
Warm clothes: Make sure you bring a warm windproof jacket and pants. It can get a little chilly here especially right on the beach.
Rain clothes: Be prepared for rain. It is still fun to go out for a walk but be prepared with the right clothes.
Boots: Waterproof shoes or hiking boots make all the difference when you walk on the beach. Bring rain boots or shoes you are comfortable in and you can walk for miles.
Hat and sun protection: Even if it is cloudy, wear sun protection. Don’t forget a warm hat and a sun hat, the weather changes fast here.
Comfy chair: If you are more into watching the ocean and the pelicans, bring a comfy chair and you can sit on the beach for hours.
Warm blanket: Cuddle up in a warm blanket and watch everything that is going on outside of your RV.
Games: Always good to bring some games along with you, whether you come here with or without children. It is easy to make friends on a campground.
Buckets: Either you collect a lot of shells or you make a sandcastle with the bucket. It is always good to have.
What to do on a rainy day
Well of course you can cuddle up in the RV or Travel Trailer and read a book. But there is also a lot to do around Edisto Beach.
Explore the nearby cities
Beaufort, SC
Check out this pretty little city, take a trolly sightseeing tour and see the must-see’s, go for lunch in one of the cute restaurants, or get hot cocoa to warm up. There are lots of museums, churches, and parks to visit, you definitely won’t get bored.
Charleston, SC
Well Charleston is a must, no matter if rain or shine. Charleston is such a quaint little city, filled with history and so many things to do.
The best way to learn the history of Charleston is to take a sightseeing bus or a sightseeing walking tour. You can either spend the whole day riding the bus, getting off and on or you stay on the bus. Ride it for 2 hours straight and take in all the information you can get.
Or you get yourself a map and just walk around the Historic District and stop for a coffee, a snack, or lunch.
These are my favorites in Charleston:
- Nathaniel Russel House
- Old Slavery Museum
- Cooper River Bridge
- Lunch at 81 Queen Street
- Dinner at The Darling Oyster Bar
- Lunch or Dinner at the Fleet Landing at the harbor
I’ve been to Charleston numerous times and have never been disappointed, no matter where I went.
So if you are ready to escape the daily routine, get the camper ready and hit the road towards Edisto Beach. Definitely, a great place to spend a long weekend or even a week.
Do you prefer the mountains? Go to Asheville, NC – we had so much fun there. Go on a brewery tour, can’t beat that.
Let me hear what you think about it,
